A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
