Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about watching this charming family go about their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
