Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could assist the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.
