Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in 882 Days
19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This represents his first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from spring of that year.
Victory also indicates he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.
The player's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.
But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, took control to create a final set.
The opponent rescued four initial break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
