Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson is forced off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the playing area early on day two of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

The England team reported Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and was to take time off the field in order to be assessed "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney gets underway this coming Sunday.

The English side has previously lost strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was dropped of the third Test, only to be brought back for the Boxing Day match as Archer's replacement.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three England players who passed ten runs.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and had nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

However, on the final ball of that over, he bowled a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out the previous Test.
