The President Invites Relatives of Injured Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their honor.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed journalists. “And likewise with him, no matter the outcome.”
Public Response
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the media. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The event prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he informed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
